Winds of changeYes, there is a lot in this picture. The two clerics, engrossed in their own little world of ecclesial matters, unaware of how the elements picture them breaking serious wind. A metaphoric interpretation perhaps, the very stones crying out as Jesus would have said. Speaking of which, the solid structure itself, alludes to the pillars of society, now bearing the very logo of Christianity that was once a symbol of rebellion against the powers that be.
Photograph supplied courtesy of Joan Wakelin Hon FRPS, FBIPP, United Kingdom It's easy to criticise this setting, as though we are more enlightened than those creaking institutions, ridden with corruption, power struggles and child abuse stories. Would we be clever to do so? The church is an easy mark, and this website is probably lumped in with the many others pulling Christendom to it's knees, or at least hoping to make a better attack than Communism was able to mount. I personally would not be so foolish as to even try. Institutional churches will be around long after I have departed this mortal coil, and they will still be doing wonderful things, and horrible, sowing good seed along with weeds as has been the case for the past two millenia. No, I think we have more to fear from the future than the past. When confronted by the option below, littered with the beautiful people of the 1980s that even the advertising industry has learnt to shun if it wishes to connect with generations X through Z, something not very far below the surface doesn't feel right.
It is merely another cultural milieu along the road that anyone Coping with Christianity must walk. There's a good chance this one will come mingled with rock music, and the backing of pleasant mannered, well heeled Christian businessmen using their talents for the 'kingdom.' Beware lest the winds of change simply blow you from one paradigm to the next. Faith is a lifelong work if you are serious, and it isn't a panacea to solve all your problems. Besides that, you've got two thousand years of silver, gold, hay and stubble to work through along your journey. We hope this slight detour might assist. .
